Backup Frequency defines how often full snapshots are taken and how long they are kept (for example: Daily, Daily — 7 days, Weekly — 28 days).
With snapshots only, you can restore the database only to the exact time the snapshot was created.
Point-in-Time Restore (PITR) allows you to restore the database to any moment within the last 3 days. It works by combining snapshots with continuous operation logs, enabling much more precise recovery.
Practical example
• Without PITR:
Snapshot at 02:00 → error at 15:30 → restore only to 02:00.
• With PITR (7 days):
Snapshot at 02:00 → error at 15:30 → restore to 15:29.
In short:
- Snapshots = fixed restore points
- PITR = restore to almost any exact time within the configured window
